Tell Us Where You Live (you know, at the wedding)

Hey Everyone,

Since there is no central location, like a hotel, for this wedding, we decided to get a map going so we could figure out where our friends and family will be staying. So it's a simple process. First, create and then sign into a google account to make this work ...It's easy, it's worth it, all you need is an email address (it doesn't have to be gmail) and a password. To start, go to google.com and press "sign in" in the upper right corner, and follow links to create an account. Then get back to this page,Get your address out, then click on this link:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=106823407149790073613.00043b70a50ef7fc037b8&z=15&om=1, then type in your address and put a pin in your location, name it, and you're done. Many thanks!

Headlines and Highlights

OK folks, we are less than 3 weeks away! Anticipating your every need, here are a few "getting down to the wire" top line items:

ATTIRE/WEATHER

It is shaping up to be the expected Indian Summer Weather in Sea Ranch - about 70 during the day, down to high 50's/low 60's after sundown. Reception is outdoors and inland a bit, and there will be a tent, but pack a wrap or sweater ladies. Not too formal, not too casual. Jackets for men, ties welcome but not necessary (but you've been warned, my friend Kel is now working for Men's Vogue and will be in attendance!). As a cue, there won't be a tux in the wedding party. For ladies, sky is the limit! Though we will be on dirt/lawn so, watch those stillettos!

REHEARSAL(S)

All rehearsal celebrations are open to whomever has arrived in time.

The Rehearsal BBQ at 3:00 is as casual as you feel comfy - there is a playground for kids so why not play clothes for everyone!!!??? Email invite to follow with details.

Rehearsal Cocktails will be after the rehearsal at the Sea Ranch lodge, ditto - invite to follow.

BABYSITTING vs. KIDS at the reception

If you want to bring a child or, better yet, a child AND a babysitter, to the reception - we can accommodate. Let us know. See below for babysitting resources.

FOOD/BEVERAGE

Our caterer rocks, but we opted for a simple chicken main course. Any vegetarians can be accommodated, we think we know who you are. If you want a veggie meal, let us know by Oct 5!

On the beverage front, the reception is at a winery so beer, wine, and bubbly are all that will be served (as well as non-alcoholic drinks). There will be mixers, so if you need your G&T, bring a flask and keep it on the QT.

BRUNCH on SUNDAY

Whomever hasn't hit the road, feel free to join us around 9:30am for Brunch -- Sea Ranch Lodge on Sunday, details to follow in email.

CELL PHONES?

See below, you've been warned

MUSICAL TALENTS?

Yes, we did save enough money for a band, but they do take breaks so -- all of you musically inclined folks that we are fortunate enough to know, prepare to wow us with your jam skills (that means you Micah, Mark, Mike, John W., Kevin, Beth, Adam...) Be prepared for requests (namely from the bride and groom) and please, no blues ;-0

Whoa, Phones!

Some important phone info: the only cell service that works in Sea Ranch is Verizon. Yup, the only one. Not T-mobile, not AT&T, not Sprint. Just Verizon. So, be prepared. Bring phone cards, and also prepare to communicate the old fashioned way, through planning ahead.

Know who's taking care of these monsters?

Maybe you do, maybe you don't... here's who the Sea Ranch Lodge recommends for babysitting services.

Nosy Rosy and Meagan Diggins at 707-884-3080. ***We learned recently that they recently had a family emergency. If they don't get back to you right away please be patient.

Or for a trusted nearby source--Sarah Neidhofer is a dear high school friend who lives in Napa. She sent this message to us to put up on this thing just the other day:

Hi Friends of L and D,
I live here in N. CA and I am bringing my own babysitter with us for
the weekend, and sharing her with another family. If I have enough
advanced notice, I might be able to score another babysitter or two.

Let me know soonish.
Thanks,
Sarah Christopher Neidhoefer

For the Gift Insisters

On the subject of gifts, we mean it... your presence IS our present. If you can make the trek to Sea Ranch, that is really enough. But we know this won't satisfy all...

Where to find the registry? Click here: http://www.yourweddingregistry.com/gift, enter either "David Boodell" or "Liesl Copland," then enter the password "guest." The instructions are a little involved so please read them ... and thanks for abiding by our "no stuff" rule.

Save the Date ... Liesl Copland & David Boodell are getting hitched, and it's a party!

Welcome to our Sea Ranch Getaway Wedding!

Sea Ranch is a resort area that extends across ten miles of California coast about two and a half hours north of San Francisco. Nestled in the rugged landscape of coastal Sonoma County, on either side of Highway One, it began as a second-home community conceived in 1963 by a group of world-renowned architects. Founded on the philosophy of the indigenous Pomo Indians, the colony’s motto is to “live lightly on the land” and Sea Ranch endures as a community famous for its sensitivity to and respect for the environment. The area consists largely of small but distinctive properties whose unique design style requires homes blend into the natural setting and minimize their visual as well as physical impact upon the landscape. Hence, a visually stunning and peaceful setting to get married!

Wedding – Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 1:00pm, Reception to follow at the Annapolis Winery

Rehearsal BBQ – Friday, October 12, 2007 at 3:00pm – One Eyed Jack's Park, all are invited

Post-Rehearsal Cocktails – Friday, October 12, 2007 a approximatly 8:00 pm, likely Sea Ranch Lodge

Getting There

Maps will follow, but essentially, the only way to get there is to drive from the Bay Area, accessed best by SFO or Oakland airports, or, in some cases, you can fly into Sonoma County Airport. If you can’t get to Sonoma County Airport, which Horizon Air serves from Los Angeles or Seattle with two flights per day, we recommend flying into Oakland over SFO. Flying into Sonoma County Airport will save you an hour of driving, otherwise it is about a three hour drive from the Bay Area. If possible, and above all else, we strongly urge all drivers to plan to arrive at Sea Ranch well before the sun sets -- the last 45 minutes of the drive are twisty-turny Highway One, high on cliffs above the ocean. The roads are fine, but for those who aren’t used to it, we really would rather you not drive even at dusk. The route, essentially, is Highway 101 north of SF or Oakland, through Russian River to the coast and north from there. Share rental cars with friends, or if you need to arrange shared transportation let us know.

IF YOU MUST ARRIVE INTO AN AIRPORT LATE IN THE DAY ON FRIDAY … We ask that you please stay the night in the Bay Area (or in Santa Rosa or Jenner, on the coast) rather than take the coastal road in the dark.

Where to Stay

Once you’ve arrived, you’ll enjoy the area best through private home rental. Just navigate the sites below or call a number or two. If you have someone to share a home with, we highly recommend this option both for enjoyment and cost. In October, many agencies offer “rent two nights get third free” specials. For those staying only one night, the Sea Ranch Lodge, the “hotel” in the area, or some of the hotels in nearby Gualala will be most convenient. October is typically “Indian Summer” and beautiful weather so prepare to be outdoors.

You will find a MAP of Sea Ranch, broken up into “unit” or “Lot” numbers which all rental sites will ID homes at http://www.searanchgetaway.com/sea_ranch_map.htm. It shows a ten mile spread -- the northernmost tip is closest to Gualala/ the church, the southernmost closest to the reception and “the Lodge” and its wonderful restaurant. Most common or recreation areas are marked… swimming, trails to hike, tennis, horseback riding and golf! The “Rehearsal Dinner” (BBQ) is on these grounds. All bluff trails and beaches are accessible by foot, but for getting around you should have access to a vehicle or someone to hitch a ride with. Each home should come with parking passes and access rites to the common areas. And most homes have hot tubs! For kids, look for homes with proximity to a recreation center/pool area. We are staying in an area smack in the middle. Ask if bed linens are included or extra.

Beginnings

Someone actually took a picture of our first real conversation.

No, we didn't drink all that. But Adam and Jen* do throw a good party. We still have the tiara. Happy New Year, 2006.

*Who are Adam & Jen? Just the reason we met... Spot them first at the church and win a thousand dollars! No, just kidding. But Adam will be the "man to see about a thing" at the reception. Did you have a Toastmaster General at your wedding? I think NOT!

Anyhoo, something was happening early on. David took this photo just a few weeks into our dating life.
